Four Hornet debaters completed at the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas from Oct. 20 through 23. Students from twenty-nine colleges and universities across fourteen states converged for a weekend of intense competition.
The varsity partnership of Squid Monteith and Noel Keil fell short of the single-elimination rounds, but managed to pick up wins over talented opponents from Cal State University – Northridge and the University of Houston.
In the junior varsity division, the team of Isaach Johnson and Kalese Warfield finished with an impressive preliminary record of 5-1. They advanced to the single-elimination rounds as the No. 3 seed. After defeating a partnership from the University of Miami in the quarterfinals, they ultimately finished as semifinalists after losing a close debate to the University of Texas – San Antonio.
Four ESU debaters will be back out for competition this weekend at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
