Before students move into Schallenkamp Hall, the public is invited to tour the newest residence hall on the Emporia State University campus. The building at 1230 Market St., Emporia, will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, for tours.
“They will the learning commons, music practice rooms, art studio, student rooms and more,” said Cass Coughlin, director of Residential Life.
The project broke ground in fall 2018 and moved quickly. Environmental and sustainability choices were key to the design. The new building features individual heating and cooling controls in rooms, LED lighting with occupancy detection, outdoor tables that are solar-powered, a rain handler roof system rather than guttering and a mattress recycling program.
Student input was integral to the process, Coughlin said.
