Emporia State University Theatre presents “The Constant Wife” by W. Somerset Maugham April 28 through May 1 at the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. Performances April 28, 29 and 30 are at 7:30 p.m., and May 1 at 2 p.m.
Written in 1926, W. Somerset Maugham’s popular comedy of manners toys with the idea that so long as a wife is supported by her husband she must remain faithful. But when the tables are turned, what happens then? “The Constant Wife” was most recently on Broadway in 2005, where Variety described it as “an antecedent to the women of Sex and the City.”
“I am double thrilled to be directing ‘The Constant Wife.’’ Said Dennise Turney, Jr., production director. “Firstly, I have wanted to work on a W. Somerset Maugham comedy since first encountering his work years ago. Secondly, we have a tremendous company of artists, and I am very excited about our collaboration to bring this production to our audiences.”
