About the Program

The social change program at Emporia State University provides educational and real-world experiences that foster a deeper understanding of justice, diversity, intersectionality, inclusion, advocacy and belonging. This program prepares you to analyze and understand personal and social identities as you build skills in critical thinking, social awareness and advocacy.

The goals of the program are to promote a greater respect for the self and for others in service of the common good. The program achieves these goals by offering classes and programming that focus on:

  • Race.
  • Sexuality.
  • Identity.
  • Cultural competency.
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion.

The social change program aspires to create a culture of diversity, inclusion and equity at Emporia State and beyond.

Major and Minor

Emporia State University offers a major and minor in social change. These flexible and dynamic programs help you develop skills necessary to create real-world change.

Study the historical and cultural constructions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class; explore the social and political issues associated with these categories.

Social Change

Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies

Through the coursework for the Social Change major, students will study multiple identities and come to understand how those identities intersect and influence one another.
