Choose your path

Majoring in languages, literature and writing allows you to choose a pathway that professionalizes the skill set best suited to your goals and interests. You can complete core requirements in either English language arts or Spanish language arts.

English

The English language arts core provides a solid foundation in literary analysis and writing. Select one of the following concentrations to match your personal or career goals.

  • English Language and Linguistics
  • English Literature and Culture
  • English Literary Arts and Publishing
  • English Technical and Professional Writing

Spanish

The Spanish language arts core prepares you for the bilingual world and workforce. One of the following concentrations will provide you with the skills you need to stand out.

  • English as a Second Language and TESOL Pedagogies
  • Spanish Language, Linguistics and Culture
  • US Latino/Latin American Literary Studies and Culture
  • Multilingual Writing and Culture

Bachelor of Arts

Study literature and language in English and/or Spanish. Match your interest to one of several concentrations that will professionalize your passion.

English

Minor

The English minor enables you to pursue a secondary interest in literature and heighten your skills as a critical reader, thinker and writer. These skills augment the expertise you gain in your major field of study and strengthen your chances for success in such areas as corporate or government service, education and communication.

Creative Writing

Minor

Through this minor, students receive guided practice in the writing of poetry, fiction, drama, and non-fiction prose as well as an opportunity to share their work with others, in both workshops and public events, strengthening their writing and performance skills.
