ESU is celebrating Fall 2023 in a big way. We've made big plans for Welcome Week and Friday Nights here at Emporia State University and in the community. You don't want to miss it!

Friday Nights Schedule

August 25 / Friday Nights Kick Off - Tailgate and Line Dancing

Where: MU Webb Hall

When: 7pm

Details: Join us for the first Friday Nights event! FREE walking tacos, pork sliders, watermelon, and FREE Game Day t-shirts to wear at the first ESU Football game on August 31. There will be tons of giveaways including limited edition ESU trucker hats and tailgating supplies like BBQ grills/JBL speakers/backpack coolers and more! Hear from the ESU coaches/teams of fall sportsand get in the Black & Gold spirit!

Following the Kick Off hang out with us to learn how to line dance the Cuban Shuffle, Cotton-Eyed Joe, Copper Head Road, Electric Slide and more! Get ready to learn how to “Dance the Night Away” from the recently released Barbie movie!

September 1 / Emporia First Friday Art Walk

Where: Downtown Emporia/Trolley House Distillery

When: 5 - 8pm

Details: Grab an Art Walk Passport at participating locations and make your way around the Emporia First Friday Art Walk featuring art at downtown businesses. This year, there will be an added feature with a LIVE mural painting experience at the Trolley House Distillery, 502 S Commercial Street.

The Art Walk Passport includes a list of each participating business with artists being featured at each venue, and any special discounts being offered by businesses during the Art Walk. At the end of the Art Walk participants may leave their completed Passport at participating venues, organizers collect the Passports, and draw for prizes. All ESU students who turn in a Passport will be entered into a drawing for one of TEN, $50 shopping sprees at Trox Gallery and Gifts!

September 8 / A Night with Josh Peck

Where: Plumb Hall - Albert Taylor Hall

When: 7pm

Details: Actor, author, and social media sensation, Josh Peck, was born to entertain, hitting the stand-up comedy circuit at just eight years old. The former teen star is best known for his role on the Nickelodeon series, Drake & Josh, and for starring in the 2012 movie Red Dawn. He was most recently seen in Christopher Nolan’s new movie, Oppenheimer, establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s rising talents, making the seamless transition from child actor to leading man.

Josh will deliver candid and funny insight into “making it” as a child star and beyond, reflecting on the stumbles and silver linings of his life—including early struggles with food, drugs, self-esteem, and self-sabotage—tracing a zigzagging path to redemption. He is also known for his social media accounts with 2.6 million followers on Twitter and 12.8 million followers on Instagram.

The format for the evening will be a moderated Q&A. Students are welcome to submit questions using this form. Our moderator will then ask a selected number of student questions throughout the event.

September 15 / Beach Party

Where: Student Recreation Center Parking

When: 5 - 7pm

Details: Hang out with us after the 3pm ESU Soccer game vs Washburn for food, fun, games, and prizes!

Try your hand at pickleball, disc golf, and sand volleyball with a chance to win a fun tropical beach towel. Giveaways include backpack coolers, sand volleyballs, pickleball sets, Ion speakers and more!
