Who qualifies for an ESU license plate?
Are you an Emporia State University alumni, students, parents, fans, and friends are eligible to apply for an ESU Power E license plate if you meet the following criteria:
- you own or lease a vehicle registered in Kansas; and
- your vehicle is a passenger car or a truck that is registered for weight of 20,000 lbs. or less. (Motorcycle plates are not available.)
How do I order?
Visit your county treasurer office to purchase a new tag. The treasurer’s office will collect an annual tax-deductible gift of $35 to the Emporia State University Foundation, an annual $5 processing fee to the state, and a one-time production charge of $50.50, plus your annual tags and taxes. All of these charges/fees will be paid together in one transaction made payable to your treasurer's office. Production charge is subject to change.
When should I order my tag?
You may order a tag at any time. However, to avoid paying the annual gift twice in one year, the best time to purchase a tag is during your annual tag renewal process.
What does the annual $35 gift go toward?
Funds from the ESU Power E tag program help provide scholarships and recognition for Emporia State University students.
How do I renew my license plate?
Approximately 45 days before your annual tag renewal date, you will receive your annual tags and taxes statement from the state of Kansas. Included in the statement will be your $35 gift to the Emporia State University Foundation for being a Power E tag owner. Only one payment transaction will be necessary—your Emporia State Foundation gift and vehicle tag/taxes expense may be paid at your county treasurer’s office, by mail, or online at https://ikan.ks.gov/.
Can I personalize my ESU license plate?
Plate numbers are produced consecutively and issued randomly. The state of Kansas does not allow personalization of educational license plates and does not honor requests for specific plate numbers.
Can I order a Power E license plate for my motorcycle?
No, motorcycle plates are not available.
