2024 Outstanding Senior
Emporian Sophia Dawson’s leadership skills and pursuit of academic excellence have blossomed during her time at Emporia State University.
Sophia’s tenure as president of ESU’s Associated Student Government has been marked by poise, confidence and an unbending support of her fellow students. Chief among those have been transfer students, whom she has assisted through improvements to the Transfer Student Orientation and the university’s survey data regarding transfer students’ experiences at ESU. Enhanced educational opportunities and community engagement for all students were campus initiatives she pursued.
Sophia, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Blue Key Honor Society, has maintained a 3.93 cumulative GPA while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management.
As ASG president, Sophia has represented ESU on the prestigious Kansas Board of Regents Student Advisory Council, which prioritized the needs for affordable learning materials for for all students and adequate funding for campus food pantries. She also has served in two vital campus roles: chair of the ASG’s Senate Operations and senator for the School of Business, where she received one of the highly sought-after appointments to Dean Bashaw’s Leadership Class in the School of Business + Technology. Additionally, she has been a member of the Student Wellness Council, General Education Council and the President’s Leadership Council.
As an officer for the Future Business Leaders of America Collegiate organization, Sophia served as the Kansas state vice president and collected a cache of awards in statewide FBLAC competitions.
