Hibah Yaseen
2024 Distinguished Senior
A consistent dedication to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion on campus has been a hallmark of Hibah Yaseen’s years at Emporia State University.
An Emporia native and DEI chair in the Associated Student Government, Hibah led a committee of six student senators that coordinated legislative efforts on DEI topics at ESU. One of those efforts, a campus training session for the appropriate use of Narcan, involved public safety and emergency response. Several others sought to place important items -- menstrual and health-care items and Narcan doses -- in strategic campus locations for public use.
As an Honors College student, Dell Inc. Scholar and TRIO McNair Scholar, Hibah posted a 3.95 cumulative GPA while earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, with a concentration in Pre-Law and a minor in History. As chair of the Honor College’s Diversity and Inclusion committee, Hibah presented monthly DEI updates and met consistently with the Honors Council to discuss future diversity membership and activities. She also created guidebooks that highlighted students’ diverse dietary needs and assisted with written guidelines for future food-service vendors.
Hibah’s memberships in other campus organizations and honor societies earned additional leadership roles. She served as an officer with the Kappa Delta Chi sorority; as treasurer of the Blue Key Honor Society; as vice president of the Politics and Pre-Law Club; as a member of the First-Generation Student Organization Advisory Council; and in a multitude of other campus-wide roles. Off campus, she has volunteered with Big Brother Big Sister, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the Islamic Center of Emporia.
