Nashatizadeh Muhammad

Emporia native and Shepherd Scholar Dr. Muhammad Mahdi Nashatizadeh graduated with highest honors in 1998 with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. He graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2003 and completed an internship in internal medicine from KU School of Medicine in Wichita in 2004. He returned to Kansas City to complete his neurology residency and served as chief resident in 2006-2007. He received additional fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.

He joined the Department of Neurology faculty at KU in 2015, has served as director of inpatient movement disorders since 2017 and is currently a clinical associate professor. As the primary attending for the inpatient academic neurology consultation service, he works with numerous departments to assess and address neurological issues affecting hospitalized patients.

He was a top-five finalist among over 900 physicians for the prestigious Rainbow Award in 2018-2019 acknowledging outstanding attributes of professionalism and excellence in medicine. He was chosen as Neurology Attending Educator of the Year from among over 50 faculty for four years consecutively (2016-2020) by third-year medical students. He is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

He joined the ESU Foundation Board of Trustees in 2020.
