COL Rodriguez

As an ESU student, Col. Luis O. Rodriguez of Arlington, Virginia, served in the ROTC program; now, he is the Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion of the U.S. Army's Judge Advocate General 's Corps (JAG).

Rodriguez graduated in 1991 with a BA in history, received a juris doctorate in 1994 from Washburn University School of Law, an LLM in 2003 from the JAG Legal Center & School, and a Master's of Science from the National War College (2017).

His distinguished military career includes service as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for all U.S. forces in Afghanistan and the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii and Iraq. He most recently served as an appellate judge in the Army Court of Criminal Appeals, and as Staff Judge Advocate for the 3rd Infantry Division, Georgia, and for U.S. Army South, Texas.

Rodriguez was also a Rule of Law advisor in Bogota, Colombia, helped establish the Colombian Army’s JAG School, was senior professor and legal advisor for Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and faculty chair and senior professor at the JAG Legal Center and School, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He further served as director of the JAG Corps' professional writing program, and has published “The American Military Justice System and Its Evolution,” and "In Athena's Footsteps: Diversity Through Mentorship."
