SASS provides specific assistive technology to qualified students
Assistive Technology (AT) and Information & Technology (IT) Accessibility
Emporia State University (ESU) is committed to ensuring equal access to IT for individuals with disabilities. Student Accessibility and Support Services (SASS) works closely with the Office of Information Technology to ensure digital accessibility. This includes, but is not limited to:
- websites,
- video and audio content,
- library resources,
- email and calendars,
- and classroom technologies.
SASS assists student’s access IT (traditional and digital) through the use of assistive technology (AT). AT is any software, device, or equipment that assist individuals with disabilities increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities – including access to IT.
AT can be:
- Low tech – devices or equipment that doesn’t require much training
- a reading guide,
- a magnifying glass,
- or a pencil grip.
- High tech – hardware and software
- text to speech or speech to text software,
- screen reader software,
- or mouse and keyboard alternatives.
- Or anything in between.
SASS can assist students determine their AT needs. SASS is able to provide assistive technology to meet the individual students need or provide information about external AT resources.
