First Generation Student Resources
Fostering a sense of community and connecting students with resources
First Generation Student Resources
The First-Generation College Student Program offers opportunities for students to establish a solid footing at Emporia State by fostering a sense of community and connecting students with resources across campus.
First Gen Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program:
- The mentorship program aims to connect first year and sophomore students with other first-generation upper-level college students (Juniors, Seniors, Graduate Students) to create peer advisory mentorship relationships. This peer-based system is important in that it helps first-gen students get the most out of their time at Emporia State University. All Mentors are trained through a mentoring program before being paired with incoming first gen students. This partnership helps first generation students to become expert navigators of the college experience, and build a key sense of belonging to campus, which is a primary building block to first-gen success. In many cases, mentorship relationships become beautiful friendships. If you would like a mentor, or would like to be a mentor, email the First-Generation council at imfirstgen@emporia.edu
First-Generation Events:
- First-Generation works hard at making sure that students feel welcome by hosting interactive events that help build relationships and inform students of helpful resources. For more information, visit our Events page
