Recognizing the Talent within Our College

Ervay Family Award for Applied Scholarship

The Ervay Family Award for Applied Scholarship is designed to recognize an individual faculty member or a team of faculty members whose body of research/scholarly activities have resulted in either improvement in or creation of an education program.

Examples of education programs include public school curricula and instructional processes; policy changes in schools, districts, regional service centers or states; preparation programs within the college; joint preparation programs between departments in the college and other university departments; and programs Faculty are encouraged to apply for the award, available from the dean's office.

During his career in education, Dr. Stuart Ervay wanted to better understand the teaching field and discover ways to improve it. As executive director of the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence, Ervay coined the term "applied scholarship" to describe the scholarly approaches that education professionals use to acquire more information about teaching and learning.

In 2013, Ervay and his family created a way to celebrate the scholarly activity that full-time faculty members of The Teachers College at Emporia State conduct to improve educational programs.

Emporia State University, The Teachers College and the Emporia State University Foundation are grateful to the Ervay family for this gift recognizing positive influences on student learning.

The deadline for submitting applications for the Ervay Family Award must be submitted to the Associate Dean of The Teachers College by 5:00 pm on November 4.
