Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of International Education (OIE) is to:

power e icon Educate our students to function as responsible global citizens and effective world        leaders in this increasingly interdependent world;

power e icon Work with the Office of Academic Affairs and academic support units on campus to        help define and achieve institutional goals regarding international education;

power e icon Assist in the development and the accomplishment of the university's goals in                 university exchanges.

To that end, our office staff is dedicated to serving the needs of students, faculty, alumni, and community in the areas of International Student & Scholar Services, Study Abroad, Intensive English Instruction, Multi-Cultural Programming, and Campus & Community Relations.

Emporia State University's future will be guided by the understanding, belief and commitment that the University administration, faculty, and staff must prepare our students to be not only globally aware but also globally active.  The University understands that internationalization must become integral to everything that we do, and, therefore, demonstrates on a daily basis its firm commitment to our international mission.  Through the combined efforts of the administration, faculty, and staff, we will internationalize our campus culture to the point that "international" is no longer something added to the university's mission.  Rather, ESU will provide every student with the opportunity for an academic experience that integrates international exchanges, international studies, and international experiences.
