Your degree. Your way.

Bachelor's of Science (BSE) in Elementary Education

As an elementary education major at Emporia State, you choose the route to becoming an elementary teacher that best fits your needs. Every route can lead to Kansas teacher licensure in one of the following two areas:

  • BSE Elementary Education (PK-6), teaching in the general education classroom, or
  • BSE Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education Unified (K-6), teaching in general or special education classroom

Routes

Face-to-Face Route

Students on the face-to-face route complete face-to-face courses on our main campus in Emporia, Kansas. During their senior year, students complete a year-long student teaching internship.

Distance Education Route

Students on the distance education route take face-to-face courses locally in Kansas City and Wichita.

Online Route

Students who prefer online learning may elect to complete all courses remotely through our online route, engaging with our highly qualified faculty from a location that is convenient for you.

Elementary education majors on any route may elect to add one or more of the following options:

Additional options

Paraeducator Option

Students who select the paraeducator option are employed by a school district as a paraeducator while simultaneously completing courses online or in the evenings. With this option, your duties as a school district employee earn you credit toward your elementary education degree.

Elementary Education (Special Education) Unified Option

Students who select the elementary education unified/special education option earn an elementary education unified license, allowing them to work as an elementary classroom teacher or special education teacher after graduation.

Four-Week Opportunities Option

Students who select the four-week opportunities option enhance their student teaching semester with a second student teaching placement overseas or with an award-winning teacher.

Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Option

Students who select the registered teacher apprenticeship option are employed by a school district as an apprentice while simultaneously completing courses online or in the evenings. As a registered apprentice, you gain valuable classroom experience as you pursue your degree.
