This course is an introduction to petrology, which is the study of rocks and rock-forming minerals. The focus will be on recognition, terminology, and classification of minerals, rocks, and sediments. The emphasis is on sight identification and description using only simple equipment. This course is intended primarily for earth science majors (B.S.), earth/space science certification (B.S.E.), and integrated studies majors (B.I.S.).

The fall semester, campus-based course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. The first meeting will be August 21, 2008, in Science Hall 128.
