Laura Hughes, Admissions Counselor

Hi! My name is Laura Hughes and I grew up in Emporia and Yates Center, KS.  I graduated from ESU with a degree in Communication with an emphasis in Career and Professional Communication.  I have worked in the Admissions office as an Office Assistant for over a year and am now an Admissions Counselor.

My official title at ESU is: (awesome) Admissions Counselor

I chose Emporia State because: my dad was always in the art studio and my mom works here, so I basically grew up on this campus.

If you’re on campus, you’ve just got to see: King Hall, they put up some amazing art exhibits.

My top three CD’s of all time are: too many to name really, but I like anything from The Cranberries, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, Weezer... I just love music.

By far… the coolest person I met at ESU was: THE Mike Lang.

New students should never leave home without: at least a little responsibility.

My favorite class at ESU was: Marriage and Family…. Very interesting.

As I walked across the stage at graduation, I thought to myself:  I can’t believe I just lost my shoe on the way up here.

If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be: PIZZA, hands down.

The quote I love the most is:  “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: It goes on.” ~Robert Frost  -and-  “Do what you want and say how you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.” ~Dr. Suess

If you had never read this, you wouldn't know that:  I have a fear of accidently hitting a pedestrian with my car.

If money were no object, my future plans would be to: travel anywhere and everywhere!

The BEST part about my job is: when I am able to make someone’s day by being able to help them.

My most embarrassing moment at ESU was:  holding up the line at graduation because my shoe fell off.

In my spare time, I like to: watch movies... especially if Will Ferrell is in it, travel, and spend time with my friends.

At work, the phrase I hear most is: Hi, how are you today?

The best reason to get involved on campus is:  to meet lots great people.
